Passenger cracks bomb joke, arrested

A bomb joke is a serious crime punishable by law. For Ramon Barrios, however, it was a mere joke.

Barrios was arrested by aviation police after the cabin crew and passengers of AirPhil Express flight GAP2364 bound for Cebu from Davao heard him mention a bomb on the plane as the aircraft was about to push back at around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The pilot in command was notified and promptly reported the incident to the Philippine National Police Aviation Unit.

The flight was delayed for almost two hours as the aircraft and passengers underwent a security check. The police did not find any bomb inside the aircraft.

When police questioned Barrios, he told them that it was only a joke.

Barrios was turned over to authorities, while charges will be filed against him. Flight GAP2364 eventually departed Davao to Cebu at 9:47 a.m.
