Lawmaker wants House members to undergo random drug tests

CAVITE 4th District Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr. will file a resolution requesting members of the House of Representatives to undergo random drug tests.

The lawmaker made the statement during the House Committee on Dangerous Drugs’ organizational meeting.

“I would like to inform the body that I would be filing a resolution requesting that all the members of the House of Representatives be subjected to random drug testing,” said Barzaga.

Barzaga also asked the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to “issue a memorandum requiring all governors, mayors, up to the barangay level to conduct random drug testing under the supervision and direction of the DILG.” Barangay is village.

Barzaga said that “this is one way of preventing our politicians from being drug dependent. At the same time, we will restore confidence to our people. And I think all the law enforcement agencies should also conduct random drug testing insofar as their personnel is concerned.” REINA C. TOLENTINO
