TV5 eyes digital TV to kick off by 2020

TV5 Network Inc. targets to start shifting to the digital terrestrial television (DTT) network in 2020 in line with the government’s plan to shift from analog to digital TV by 2023. TV5 President and Chief Executive Officer Jane Basas said that “we should be awarding it very soon to a winning supplier, and we should start to build within the year, and it’s going to be a joint build by Cignal and TV5,” she told reporters recently. The supplier, she added, will be the one bringing the equipment needed for the shift. By end-2020, Basas said, the first shutdown of analog television will happen in Mega Manila. Asked about how much was the firm’s investment, Basas refused to disclose official figures, but said the capital was “substantial.”
