Fans of the afternoon drama series “Kadenang Ginto” will definitely know actress Dimples Romana as the fabulous villain Daniela Mondragon.
Already a familiar face in teleseryes, this talented lady became all the more popular following a scene from her current series where Daniela was garbed in a fiery red dress with matching shoes, and defiantly pulling the same-colored luggage down the street. She had lost that round with Romina, but will she be back!
Since then, Romana’s fame has extended to the Internet with memes of the now iconic Daniela photoshopped in different places around the Philippines and the world’s most sought after destinations.
So eyecatching was TV’s villain-turned-world traveller that in July, Department of Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat asked her to help the agency in their campaign to promote lesser-known destinations, museums and heritage sites in the Philippines. Not only did Romana happily sign on but she also volunteered to be an advocate for sustainable tourism.
Thrilled that her career continues to thrive even as she soon enters her 24th year in the business — Romana, 35, started with Star Magic in 1996 — Romana admits it’s a constant struggle to maintain her stature while doing her best as dutiful wife to husband Boyet Ahmee and loving mom to Callie and Alonzo.
For all these, Romana has gained the admiration of many — advertisers included, the latest of which is the team behind Skin Magical beauty products.
In fact, company chief operating officer Ghie Pangilinan and her supportive husband Jerry asked for Romana’s endorsement via a specially-designed campaign that resonated with their brand.
They call it “Gandang Palaban,” whose objective is to boost a person’s confidence and win over life’s challenges for a happier and more fulfilling existence.
“I certainly admire the mission-vision of Skin Magical as a company since witnessing how Ms. Ghie, together with her amazing team, carefully come up with products that truly care for our skin, all while constantly empowering those who are new in the business. They definitely look up to her for inspiration and guidance, while her market looks to her for their beauty goals,” Romana said at her well-attended launch.
“As you all know, I started working very early. You can imagine lahat ng puyat, lahat ng pollution that my skin has to go through every single day. I put makeup on almost every day, and even up to now that I’ve been working for more than two decades in the business, I realize all the more how important it is to take care of your skin.
“So I’m just glad that I’m doing this campaign. Not only am I very proud that all the products are very effective, affordable and provide business for a lot of people — a lot of women especially — but the range is also proudly Filipino-made. It’s proudly Filipino ran by a Filipina na talagang I admire,” she continued.
Elvie Pangilinan shared how with only an initial capital of P7,000 and her sole product, a highly effective papaya beauty soap, she painstakingly managed to grow her business into what is now considered as one of the best and most successful skin care brands in the country.
“In fact, Skin Magical has already received various recognitions and awards, both locally and internationally,” Romana pointed out.
“I can really relate to their experience kasi I’m sure all of you know, I started from zero sa showbiz. Lahat yun patiently ko pinagdasal, hinintay, trinabaho and lahat yun kalakip hindi lang sipag, tiyaga, dasal, professionalism at pakikipag kapwa tao.
“At kapag nakakarelate ako sa isang brand that also reflects the same values that I have for my work and my family, what more to be actually be a part of it?
“At pagdating ng panahon na malaking malaki na yung Skin Magical at umabot na all over the world, masasabi kong kasama nila ako noong nagsisimula pa lang. Kasama ako sa success nila kahit konti ang parte ko and for that I am truly grateful,” Romana ended.
