Gun permits suspended for SEA Games

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) suspended the permit to carry firearms outside of residence during the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
The order, contained in a memorandum signed by Lt. Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa, PNP officer in charge, covers Calabarzon (Region 4A – Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), Central Luzon, National Capital Region and the province of La Union, and is effective from November 20 to December 14.
Gamboa said only members of the PNP, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and law enforcement agencies performing duties during the SEA Games would be allowed to carry firearms.
Gamboa said this was part of the security preparations “to ensure that the activities will be free from firearm-related incidents and to ensure the safety of the populace, as well as the local and foreign athletes.”
Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas, National Capital Region Police Office chief, said Metro Manila would be on full alert from November 25 to December 14.
No threat has been received by the NCRPO, Sinas reported.
A total of 27,440 personnel will be deployed in New Clark City, Metro Manila, Laguna, Tagaytay, Subic, and Bulacan.
In Metro Manila 8,000 PNP personnel, including plain clothesmen, would provide security.
The SEA Games will be from November 30 to December 11.
