SPEAKER Alan Peter Cayetano said on Thursday that there was no need for members of the House of Representatives to mount a coup d’etat to wrest the leadership from him.
In an ambush interview at the Club Filipino in San Juan City, Cayetano said he did not want to speculate about moves to replace him as he assured his colleagues that he was not one to hang on to the position.
“After 15 months, sabihin naman ni Velasco ‘ako naman,’ eh ‘di takeover?,” he said, referring to Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco with whom he had forged a term-sharing agreement.
When asked about Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio’s cryptic message for lawmakers on Instagram, Cayetano plainly answered, “I don’t have [an] IG.”
The cryptic message of President Rodrigo Duterte’s daughter for lawmakers was posted a day after the Chief Executive warned Cayetano and Velasco to honor their term-sharing agreement.
In her post Sara Duterte said, “‘I told you so is a sure-fire way to kick-start an argument. In the same way, ‘you do not listen’ will ignite a conversation into a heated one.”
“May I just say to everyone in Congress, ‘I told you, but you did not listen, so there you go,’” she said. FRANZ LEWIN EMBUDO
