AN alleged leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed on Wednesday morning in Laak, Davao del Norte.
The Philippine Army’s 60th Infantry Battalion said Marjun Taba, who also went by the name “Hiker”, was “successfully neutralized” during a joint operation by their unit, the 25th IB and the Laak Municipal Police Station.
It also said that Taba was tracked after receiving tips from the locals of Laak, which resulted in an encounter with five men, who included the NPA leader.
His men escaped but authorities recovered in the encounter site Taba’s .45 pistol and two anti-personnel improvised explosive devices.
Officials from the local governments of Tagum City and Laak coordinated initially with the military and the police to have Taba yield to authorities.
However, the military said the NPA leader “adamantly refused and neglected negotiations for his surrender.”
