SEN. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go gave assurances that the government made the necessary preparation for Typhoon “Tisoy” (international name: “Kammuri”) but urged Metro Manila residents to brace for the powerful typhoon.
“Tayo rin po ay maghanda. Maghanda tayo ng pagkain at iba pang kailangan. Punta tayo sa lugar na safe. Bantayan natin ang ating mga anak (We also have to be prepared, Let us prepare food and other necessities. Go to a safer place. Watch your children),” Go said when he visited fire victims in Barangay Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City.
Tisoy is expected to slam into Bicol region, but will also affect Metro Manila, which was placed under Signal 2 on Monday.
The senator distributed relief and financial assistance to 1,006 families or 4,115 individuals affected by the blaze.
Representatives of various agencies such as the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, National Housing Authority, Department of Trade and Industry and the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor also provided assistance.
“Pinakiusapan ko din ang iba’t ibang ahensya ng gobyerno na tumulong (I have requested the different agencies of the government to provide assistance),” Go explained.
He urged those injured by the fire to seek treatment in Malasakit Centers.
“Meron po tayong Malasakit Centers sa Novaliches District Hospital, Heart Center, Lung Center [and] Philippine Children’s Medical Center. Plano rin natin magkaroon dito sa Mandaluyong (We have Malasakit Centers in Novaliches District Hospital, Heart Center, Lung Center and Philippine Children’s Medical Center. We are also planning to put up one center here in Mandaluyong),” Go said.
“Basta Pilipino ka at kailangan mo ng tulong, qualified ka humingi ng tulong sa Malasakit Center. Inyo po iyan (If you are a Filipino and you need help, you are qualified to seek help from Malasakit Center. That is yours), ” he added.
