3 Cabinet members targets of CPP-NPA, says military official

THREE Cabinet members are the new targets of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA), an Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) official said on Wednesday.

Maj. Gen. Antonio Parlade identified these officials as Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Chairman Allen Capuyan, and National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon.

The CPP-NPA’s “sparrow” unit, a special operations group, will carry out the killings, Parlade said.

Dahil alam nila na active at effective [Because they know that they (the three Cabinet members) are active and effective],” Parlade told the reporters in a chance interview.

Parlade also said that he was also a target.

Sabi ko nga wala akong kinakatakot sa kanila kasi wala akong utang sa kanila [I don’t fear them because I don’t owe them anything],” Parlade said.

Parlade vowed to end the communist insurgency in a year. DARWIN PESCO
