A group of veteran media practitioners conferred on Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Domagoso the “Miracle Worker of Manila” award in recognition of his achievements in transforming the city.
The mayor received the award during the Bulong Pulungan media forum.
Deedee Siytangco, one of the group’s founders, said they came up with the award because some of their members live in Manila and “have never seen someone as open, as clean and as hardworking as he is.”
“There are many older men who had been there for so many years,” Siytangco said, referring to the city’s previous mayors Joseph Estrada and Alfred Lim. Domagoso was also made an honorary member of the Manila Yacht Club.
The other awardees of the exemplar award were Robert “Bobby” Joseph, Manila Yacht Club Commodore and former San Juan Mayor Guia Guanzon Gomez.
Siytangco said Domagoso was honored for clearing Manila streets, such as Recto Avenue, and for cleaning and rehabilitating parks, particularly the Bonifacio Monument near the Manila City Hall.
The mayor said the Manila Metropolitan Theater, shuttered for decades, would be open soon.
“Baka sa March lang makapanood na kayo sa [Manila] Metropolitan Theater (You may be able to watch shows in the Manila Metropolitan Theater in March),” Domagoso said.
