OHAYO gozaimasu is the formal Japanese translation for “good morning.” I’m currently in the Land of the Rising Sun enjoying the chilly winter with the family and meditating on how 2020 would turn out, especially with my planned early retirement from my civil service position. It’s going to be a life-changing year and there are a number of topics I can share with you readers about managing a career in the bureaucracy, my thoughts on the small and medium enterprise (SME) scene, development finance, and others, But for now, let me share some of my insights on this Japan sojourn.

As I write this, I’m enjoying my coffee break here in Osaka while observing the busy Japanese people doing their usual day-to-day activities in this fast-paced city. I have been to this country a couple of times, but this journey is extra special, as I have the chance to slow down and reflect not only on the scenery, but also my life.
