WE Filipinos are no strangers to calamities, both natural and man-made. Just last month, we saw Typhoon “Ursula,” a Category 1 Hurricane, hit Eastern Samar and a 6.9-magnitude earthquake rock Davao del Sur. Two weeks into the start of a new decade, the country was grappling with the eruption of Taal Volcano in Batangas.

During these occurrences, many are torn between the need to fulfill work responsibilities and the instinct to prioritize personal health and safety. Employees may feel restless and paranoid worrying about their pile of pending tasks, while new employees may not want to file unpaid leaves. It might be worth reminding everyone that there is a law governing and protecting the welfare of the workforce.
