THE Philippine Electricity Market Corp. (PEMC) insisted on Friday that the transfer of the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market’s (WESM) operations to the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines Inc. (Iemop) complied with the law.
In a statement on Friday, PEMC said the move was consistent with Section 30 of Republic Act 9136, or the “Electric Power Industry Reform Act (Epira) of 2001.” This law states that the WESM, as a venue for trading electricity as a commodity, shall be run independently.
