Gen. Trias town celebrates centennial

GENERAL TRIAS CITY, Cavite: This city is celebrating its 100 years today. It was named after the very first Vice President of the Philippines, General Mariano Closas Trias. Mayor Antonio Ferrer, Sixth District Rep. Luis Ferrer 4th and Sangguniang Panglungsod (City Council) members will lead the laying of wreath at the monument of the local hero. On February 24, 1920 with the effect of Act 2889, commissioned by Emilio Virata, the locality known then as Malabon was named after the general. Motorists are advised to take alternate routes and avoid the poblacion (city center) during the ceremony from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m., according to local traffic officer Noel Morena. Gen. Trias is now a first class city. To food tourists, it is known as home of “Valenciana dish”.
