Mayor Vico Sotto is the hottest item not only in national news but in showbiz as well.
The son of comedy icon Vic Sotto and respected actress Coney Reyes continues to receive heaps of praises for his quick response to the needs of his constituents as the enhanced community quarantine ensues. His most lauded moves were purchasing drones that were used to disinfect the city and preparing 400,000 food packs and vitamins for those who depend on daily wages but forced to stay home for safety.
Another step that warmed the hearts of Pasig residents was when Mayor Vico announced that all city employees will receive their salaries in full, including those whose items were originally “no work, no pay.”
Those in the frontline will also get hazard pay, overtime and additional benefits, as he asks the rest of Pasig to stay home to ensure their safety.
But while Mayor Vico has trended with many netizens saying they wished they lived in Pasig, he hasn’t been spared by bashers who chose to find fault in what he’s done. Of course, with lots of time in everyone’s hands, arguments have also ensued between the Vico fans and haters. Amid all these, however, the good mayor’s, plea is that everyone simply unite at this difficult time so that everyone can focus on the job at hand.
Indeed in this time of crisis, any kind of help — big or small — is welcome and valuable. That’s why it’s very disheartening that there continue to be those who would rather find fault the gestures of celebrities who have gone out of their way to help out during this Covid-19 outbreak.
Comedienne Pokwang is one of the good Samaritans from showbiz who just chose to ignore bashers who belittled her donation of sandwiches and meals for law enforcers and medical staff manning the checkpoints in the area where she lives. For her, what’s important is that in her own simple way, she was able to extend a little help, which was truly appreciated by those on the receiving end.
Pokwang appeals to everyone to follow government and stay home to prevent the further spread of Covid-19. Most importantly, she urges everyone to keep praying.
