At least 22 nurses of the Makati Medical Center (MMC) are under home quarantine following their exposure to patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the hospital’s medical director said Thursday.
Dr. Saturnino Javier said Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel 3rd, a Covid-19 patient who brought his pregnant wife to the hospital on Tuesday, had exposed 6 to 8 medical personnel to the virus.
He said that some health workers have been cleared to go back to work even if they did not complete their 14-day quarantine.
“If you don’t develop symptoms between 5-7 days, and your level of exposure is low to moderate you may be cleared to go back to work but you will still be wearing a mask,” he said in an interview with ANC.
“We cannot strictly enforce the 14 days. Otherwise mauubusan tayo ng personnel (we will run out of personnel,” he added.
MMC earlier denounced Pimentel for accompanying his pregnant wife, Kathryna, to the hospital despite being a person under investigation.
They said that Pimentel violated his home quarantine protocol when he brought his pregnant wife to the hospital.
