POGO operators donate P150 M worth of hospital supplies, food packs

Amid the enhanced community quarantine being implemented in Luzon, the Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) in the have raised a total of P150 million for the purchase of medical supplies and food packs for distribution to various hospitals and cities in Metro Manila.

Of this amount, P90 million was used to purchase essential medical supplies needed by hospitals to protect healthcare frontliners who are combating the coronavirus disease-19 (Covid-19), while P50 million was used to purchase food items.

The remaining P10 million was used to purchase 25,000 food packs to be distributed by POGOs and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) to the cities of Pasay, Parañaque, Quezon City’s Districts 1, 2 and 4, Pateros, Mandaluyong, Marikina and Malabon.

The recipient local government units have already taken measures to properly distribute the food packs to their constituents. Paranaque and Pasay in particular have already coordinated with their barangay heads, who will distribute the food packs to families who are in dire need.

Aside from the medical supplies and food donations, POGOs also recently donated three thermal camera scanners to Philippine National Police – National Police Office (PNP-NCRPO). These equipment, which are commonly seen in airports, use infrared sensors to detect body temperature. The donation, which was turned over to PNP-NCRPO chief Brigadier General Debold Sinas will be placed in checkpoints for faster and more efficient temperature scanning.

Earlier, Pagcor has ordered the temporary suspension of POGOS and their service providers in Luzon for the duration of the enhanced community quarantine imposed by the government.
