Tenth doctor dies to Covid-19: PMA


ANOTHER doctor has succumbed to the coronavirus disease 2019 (covid-19), bringing the mortality count of doctors to 10 out of 45 people who died of the virus in the country, the Philippine Medical Association (PMA) confirmed on Friday.

PMA President Jose Santiago Jr., however, did not elaborate further.

“We mourn the death of one of our colleagues,” said Santiago told radio dzBB in an interview.


“I just received word this morning that as of today (Friday) na sampu na [ang bagong kaso], may nadagdag na isa. (there are 10 doctors who died, there was an additional one [today])” he added.

On Thursday, Department of Health (DoH) Secretary Francisco Duque 3rd announced the passing of Dr. Salvacion “Sally” Rodriguez-Gatchalian, President of Philippine Pediatric Society and the sister of actress-comedienne Ruby Rodriguez.

Santiago also revealed the identity of eight other doctors who passed away on DZBB on Thursday morning.

Two were cardiologists from the Philippine Heart Center — Doctors Israel Bactol and Raul Jara.

The others were oncologist Rose Pulido of the San Juan de Dios Hospital; Greg Macasaet 3rd, anesthesiologist at the Manila Doctors Hospital; Henry Fernandez of the Pangasinan Medical Society; Marcelo Jaochico of the Pampanga Provincial Health Center; Raquel Seva, an OB-Gyne in Laguna; and Hector Alvarez of the Novaliches District Hospital.

As of Friday, Covid-19 has claimed 45 lives, along with 707 new cases and 28 recoveries.
