P5-M smuggled cigarettes seized in Zambo Sibugay


IPIL, ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY: Close to P5 million worth of smuggled cigarettes were confiscated on Wednesday during a joint police and military operation at the seaport of San Vicente village in the town of Tungawan.

Police Provincial Director Col. Jerry Protacio said the apprehending team was able to confiscate some 150 boxes of Fort cigarettes, which were hidden under 60 wooden boxes of dried fish owned by a certain Salam Addah of Barangay Mampang, Zamboanga City.

He added that the contraband products were to be transported to Pagadian City in Zamboanga del Sur.

Protacio said the team arrested the alleged owner of the contraband, Abdurasmann Usman of Jolo, Sulu, and his truck driver, Hussien Aukasa from barangay Mampang.

The suspects are currently detained at the Tungawan Municipal Police Station , while appropriate charges are being readied against them.
