12 doctors have died of Covid-19 – PHAPI chief


TWELVE doctors have died of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the head of the Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines Incorporated (PHAPI) confirmed on Sunday.

“Ang latest count po natin ay nasa labindalawa na ang namamatay (Our latest count is 12),” PHAPI president Rustico Jimenez said in a radio interview.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque 3rd had assured the families of the deceased doctors that they would receive P1 million as special assistance.


The 12 doctors joined the growing number of medical practitioners who succumbed to the coronavirus disease that has so far claimed 68 lives.

Meanwhile, three healthcare workers at the San Lazaro Hospital tested positive for the coronavirus disease, the hospital’s infectious disease chief said on Sunday.

Dr. Rontgene Solante said all personnel assigned in infectious disease wards were tested for Covid-19 and three were found to have been infected.
