Nakamura takes helm of Honda PH operations

Effective last April 1, 2020, Honda Cars PH, Honda’s automobile unit in the country, is ushering in a new era with the formal appointment of Masahiko Nakamura as its new president. He replaced Noriyuki Takakura, who will take on his new position as president of Honda Automobile Thailand Co. Ltd (HATC).

A seasoned corporate man, Nakamura has held key positions with Honda Motor Company in Japan, such as deputy general manager positions in various divisions, gaining expertise in sales, business strategy and marketing. Overall, Nakamura brings to the table 30 years of experience in Honda’s automobile operations.

His tenure at Honda’s domestic operations comes at a challenging time for the automotive giant with the recent closure of its Laguna manufacturing facility. Despite its strong domestic market share, Honda strategically closed its facility due to insufficient market volume in terms of sales, further compounded by the government’s Train law or the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Act. Nakamura’s role with Honda PH is to oversee importing and distribution of units from its Thailand manufacturing plant in Prachin Buri Province, which is 120 km east of Bangkok. The Thailand facility is capable of 120,000 units annually.

The new HCPI top executive looks forward to sharing his expertise with the local team as he hopes to steer Honda’s automobile business through a challenging and evolving automotive landscape.
