The National Privacy Commission has reiterated its call for privacy among patients infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), adding that protecting privacy rights is equivalent to protecting lives.

It issued the statement after the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, the Philippine Medical Association and Philippine College of Surgeons and other organizations pushed for a confidentiality waiver of Covid-19-positive patients, as well as persons under investigation (PUIs) and persons under monitoring (PUMs).
