WE cannot, as human beings, fail to give thanks to anyone, or any country, that provides assistance during these difficult times. But there are things that we cannot simply forget. China has sent 12 doctors to help and we cannot but be grateful. Yet, it must be stressed repeatedly that this, and all the aid and assistance that the government of Chinese President Xi Jinping, have given should never be allowed to be used to buy our silence and our forgetting. It is the desire of the leaders of the People’s Republic of China — for the world to forget that its actions of placing its own political interests above the health and safety of its own citizens led it to engage in lies to cover up the beginnings of what soon became a global pandemic.

It is simply nothing but brazen gall, even bordering on the malevolent, for China’s propaganda machinery to now project itself as a victim and savior. It is outrageous for China to even suggest that this virus is a biological warfare concocted from laboratories in the United States. This is precisely why it is painful to be grateful to the assistance it gives and to watch some of the pro-China supporters of our own government actively propagate this magnanimity as a blessing. In reality, it is not even enough to make up for all the human suffering that China’s failure to alert the world about the virus outbreak in Wuhan has caused.
