FILIPINO scientists and medical practitioners who were trained and based overseas have joined the frontliners in Philippine hospitals in the continuing struggle against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DoST-PCHRD) Balik Scientist Program said several medical practitioners offered their expertise to fight the pandemic, including Dr. Edsel Maurice Salvaña, a member of the Technical Advisory Group that advises the Department of Health (DoH) and the Inter-Agency Task Force. He is also a director at the University of the Philippines (UP) Manila, associate professor at the UP-Philippine General Hospital (PGH) and adjunct faculty for Global Health at the University of Pittsburgh.
