PBSP allots $12M to fight coronavirus

THE Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) has allotted $11.8 million as part of its contribution to the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

During the recently concluded “Business-not-as-usual” webinar, PBSP Access Tuberculosis (TB) Project Program Manager Arnyl Araneta said the amount, which would be utilized through the Access TB Project, was 10 percent of the $118.5-million subsidy of the Global Fund.

Around 90 percent of the figure will be devoted to the program that aims to cure TB patients in the country.

Araneta said the subsidy would help identify and produce measures to protect caregivers of persons with TB, as well as the patients themselves, against Covid-19, which could worsen their situation if unprotected.

Among the measures that will be implemented are appropriations for the purchase of personal protective equipment and biosafety cabinet worth $2.4 million and $1.1 million, respectively.

Aside from these, a portion of the Global Fund’s subsidy will go to hazard pay, fit testing kits, Xpert Machines and other important items in the fight against the virus.
