THE Department of Finance (DoF) recently marked a milestone when it reported that its fuel-marking program had been applied to nearly 7 billion liters of product since its full launch last year. This success is attributable to the persistence of Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez 3rd and guarantees much-needed revenue for the government at a time when other usual sources have been severely compromised because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

Secretary Dominguez reported late last month that as of April 15, 6.87 billion liters of fuel had been marked as part of the program, which now includes virtually every distributor of fuels in the Philippines, including the ones responsible for the largest share of the country’s fuel supply.
