As the number of new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the country climbed past the 28,000 mark on Friday, health authorities began to shift their attention to Region 7 (Central Visayas), where the spread of the virus has reached worrying proportions.
The Department of Health (DoH) reported 661 new cases, bringing the total to 28,549. The DoH said 460 of the cases were classified as fresh cases, where patients received their results three days after testing.
