Having been chairman before for four years of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), I hope this rumor running around that there’s a move to disqualify senior members, who are 60 and above, from running for an elective position in the next election this coming November is not all true. Why? Simply because more than half or two thirds or majority of the members in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) are also seniors or above 60 or 70 years of age.

I just received a copy from one of our POC members and obviously, the top positions in the IOC up to now are still seniors. So what gives? I am for the term limit of only two terms of four years per term for our top officials, such as the presidency and the chairmanship. But that’s it. I intend to make this move in the next electoral congress to decide on the rules. Eight years is enough for the top two positions. And I also believe that the chairmanship should still be respected in the POC, which sometimes produces the check and balance in our sports organization. And I also don’t believe that this idea, which many object to, comes from our Constitutional Committee Chairman Ricky Vargas. This is discrimination. And even goes against our Constitution. If this is done, it’s like removing Pres. Duterte from Malacañang cause he’s too old at 76 years of age to lead the country. Right? Try telling him that to his face.
