THE Philippines’ total coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases have reached 52,914. On Friday, 1,233 new cases had been added to the tally with a total of 38,324 total active cases.
Of the new cases, 848 were fresh cases, which were tests given to the patient three days after the test, while 385 were part of the confirmation backlog. Of the fresh cases, 405 were recorded in Metro Manila while 30 came from Central Visayas and 413 from other regions.
The data came from 70 out of 79 currently operational Covid-19 testing laboratories.
Meanwhile, 286 were added to the total number of recoveries, which is now at 13,320.
According to Dr. Beverly Lorraine Ho of the Department of Health (DoH)-Health Promotion and Communication Service, there will be a marked increase in the number of recoveries starting on Monday due to the submission of data of those who recovered from the disease from the local government units.
From yesterday’s zero death toll, 42 deaths were added in the death toll tally, bringing the overall deaths to 1,360.
Ho said 27 of them died in July while 12 perished in June, noting that 36 of those who died came from Cebu.
“Ayon sa ating datos (According to our data), more than half, or 57 percent, were aged 60 and above,” said Ho.
Earlier, the DoH admitted that it had more than 12,000 tests under backlog.
