GENEVA: The World Health Organization (WHO) on Friday (Saturday in Manila) urged countries grappling with the coronavirus to step up control measures, saying it is still possible to rein it in, as some countries clamped fresh restrictions on citizens.

With case numbers more than doubling in the past six weeks worldwide, Uzbekistan returned to lockdown because of a spike in cases while Hong Kong said schools would close from Monday after recording an “exponential growth” of locally transmitted cases.
