AN environmental group has warned the Bureau of Customs (BoC) against the unimpeded entry into the country of imported paint products containing dangerously high levels of lead in violation of existing laws banning the substance.

The warning was issued by environmental watchdog EcoWaste Coalition following results of its joint study the International Pollutants Elimination Network (IPEN), which showed that 37 of the 87 analyzed samples had lead levels hundreds of times higher than the 90 parts per million (ppm) maximum limit set by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
