PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte declared July 31, Friday, a regular holiday in observance of Eid al-Adha, the Muslim Feast of Sacrifice, Malacañang announced on Thursday.

PRAYING IN PEACE Muslims pray inside the Golden Mosque in Quiapo, Manila on July 30, 2020, a day before they observe Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of the Sacrifice, which President Rodrigo Duterte had declared a regular holiday. The feast — which recalls Abraham’s (Ibrahim) willigness to sacrifice his firstborn son Ismail (Ishmael) to God, but was told to sacrifice an animal, most likely a lamb, instead — marks the end of the annual hajj pilgrimage.
