Putting Metro Manila under a hard lockdown would prevent as many as 70,000 persons from getting infected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), a group of researchers from the University of the Philippines (UP) projected.

The modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) was enforced midnight on Monday in the National Capital Region as well as in Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite and Laguna — areas where Covid-19 cases continue to surge.
