WITH less than three weeks to go, two teacher groups asked the Department of Education (DepEd) to reschedule the start of classes amid the reimposition of the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) in Metro Manila and four other areas due to the rising cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) said the MECQ would affect preparations ahead of the school opening on August 24 while the Alliance of Concerned Teachers(ACT) challenged the DepEd to revise its plan to one that will ensure the health and safety of its constituents and “deliver the learners’ right to meaningful and relevant education.”
