The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) assured on Thursday that it was implementing various mechanisms to ensure that the country’s foreign debt remained manageable.
In a briefing, BSP Governor Benjamin Diokno said external debt reached $81.4 billion as of the first quarter —$2.2 billion smaller than the $83.6 billion at the end of 2019 — and represented 21.4 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) in the first three months.
