THE number of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) seeking assistance because of the coronavirus pandemic surged past 600,000. the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) said on Sunday.

Citing reports from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and Philippine Overseas Labor Offices, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello 3rd said 604,403 OFWs had applied for DoLE’s cash aid as of August 15. Close to half of the requests were approved.
