The House of Representatives had granted under the Bayanihan to Recover As One Act (Bayanihan 2) more funds for the repatriation of over 100,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) stranded abroad because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic, Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano said on Sunday.

The House version of the law allocates P820 million for the Department of Foreign Affairs’ (DFA) Assistance to Nationals (ATN) Fund for “repatriation-related expenses, shipment of remains and cremation of OFWs who passed away due to Covid-19, medical assistance of OFWs, and other assistance that may be provided for OFWs who are affected by the pandemic.”
