THE Philippines imposed a temporary ban on the importation of domestic and wild pigs, pork products, and by-products from Germany after it confirmed its first case of African Swine Fever (ASF).

The Department of Agriculture (DA) said the new order banning the German pork products was a “reiteration” of the same directive it issued in July 2019. This, according to Agriculture Secretary William Dar, also followed Germany’s latest report to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) that the ASF virus was discovered from carcass of wild boars a few kilometers from Germany’s border with Poland, in the Spree-Neisse district in the southern part of Bradenburg.
