The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Tuesday committed to buy palay (unmilled rice) cultivated by local farmers at P19 per kilo and even take the “extra mile” by picking these at their respective communities following reports that farm gate prices of the staple were dropping ahead of the harvest season.

“We will continue to buy palay [for] as high as P19 per kilo at 14-percent moisture content from our farmers to assure them of bigger earnings, and if need be, pick up their produce at a designated area in their barangay (village),” Agriculture Secretary William Dar said in a statement.
