4 dead as PH Air Force chopper crashes in Basilan

FOUR people died after a Philippine Air Force (PAF) helicopter crashed in a Basilan town on Wednesday afternoon, a military report said.

The Rotary Wing Rescue aircraft, with tail number 202, crashed in the vicinity of Barangay Upper Manggas in Lantawan at about 1 p.m.

An initial report said that the aircraft was under the supervision of the PAF’s 505th search and rescue squadron.

Members of the Philippine Army’s 4th Special Forces Battalion are conducting the retrieval of the bodies of the unidentified passengers.

Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr. of the Western Mindanao Command said the chopper was en route to Sulu from Zamboanga City to evacuate some of the injured civilians in the twin Jolo bombings in August.
