P262M for banana R&D to boost output, exports

The Department of Agriculture (DA) has allotted P262.7 million to for development initiatives in producing banana varieties resistant to fusarium wilt, and further increase the production of quality bananas for both domestic and export markets.

Of the total budget, P100 million is earmarked under the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act as a counterpart fund to rehabilitate fusarium wilt-affected banana (Cavendish) areas in Mindanao for the benefit of both big and small growers and exporters, according to Agriculture Secretary William Dar.
