The National Press Club of the Philippines—as a professional organization of bona fide journalists—is dead. It has been kidnapped and executed by a group of smart operators. Yet its present officers have the gall to call for NPC elections on May 7, 2006. Since the NPC owns a four-story clubhouse and has usufruct over 4,288 valuable square meters of real estate situated beside the Pasig River in Manila, the hijacking of the club has financial implications.

The coup de grace to our beloved 54-year-old institution was dealt on November 28, 2003, at the NPC convention hall. There, an illegal assembly of around 30 persons deceitfully “amended” the bylaws of the corporation.
