PARIS: More than 1 million people have died from coronavirus, according to an Agence France-Presse (AFP) toll, after the deadly disease emerged less than a year ago in China and swept around the globe.

The pandemic has ravaged the world’s economy, inflamed geopolitical tensions and upended lives, from India’s slums and Brazil’s jungles to America’s biggest city, New York.
