The National Food Authority (NFA) reported on Friday that it had purchased about 2 million bags of palay (unmilled rice) in September, as the traditional main harvest for the staple starts to peak this month.
In a statement, the state-run food agency said it procured local palay last month at a daily average of 90,012 bags. Of the total volume, 505,440 bags came from Region 2 (Cagayan Valley), 318,383 from Region 6 (Western Visayas), 298,665 from Region 12 (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani provinces and Gen. Santos City, or Soccsksargen), 121,910 from Region 4 (Southern Luzon) and 100,714 from Region 5 (Bicol).
