The government collected more than P13 billion in duties slapped on rice imports in the first nine months of the year despite declining import volumes resulting from the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic-induced global economic slump, according to the Department of Finance (DoF).

In a statement on Thursday, the Finance department said the Bureau of Customs (BoC) already collected P13.09 billion in duties from 2 million metric tons (MT) of rice imports during the period.
