The phrase “fake news” has been a weapon wielded by politicians and other public figures who have been challenged or criticized by media. The tactic seems so effective that even government critics use the phrase to lash out against some media that report content or carry commentaries against them or are favorable to the authorities. The issue with fake news has become so popular that it was one of the main points discussed recently in the Campus Press forum of The Manila Times, a workshop for student journalists.
