The month of January is named after the Roman god Janus. He is the god of doors, gates, and transitions. Unfortunately, he is unfairly associated with treachery because he is two-faced, but his two faces actually represent his ability to look back at the past and at the same time, look into the future.

It is only fitting, therefore, that my first column this year would focus on events that affected the maritime industry in 2020, and on the challenges that the industry is facing in 2021 and beyond.
