Instead of the usual multitudes of devotees, the crowds will be held to a minimum as the shadow of the coronavirus pandemic looms over the celebration of the feast of the Black Nazarene in Manila today, January 9.

SIGN FROM ABOVE A replica of the Black Nazarene visits the Sta Cruz Church in Manila on Jan. 8, 2021 as a priest in a face mask offers a blessing. Images of the Nazarene can be found in other churches in Metro Manila to avoid crowding in Quiapo Church, home of the original relic. Devotees have been advised to wear face masks and face shields and to observe physical distancing during the services to avoid the spread of Covid-19. PHOTO BY RENE H. DILAN
