AS AN ADVICE newspaper columnist for another paper, almost every day I’m bombarded with calls, emails and friendly chats via social media. They think I’m the best man on the job to challenge or support their management policy. Of course, there’s truth to that. Why not? It’s free for a limited period of time for my readers and followers. The trouble is that it has become easy for some people to abuse my generosity.
Take the case of Mariel (not her real name) who came out of nowhere to ask a question via Facebook Messenger: “Are pakyaw workers entitled to a 13th month pay?” I told her I’m not a lawyer but gave her an answer just the same. “Here’s a screen shot of a page from the website of the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE). It says here that pakyaw workers are not entitled to it.”
