A magnitude 7.1 earthquake shook Mindanao on Thursday night but left no major damage because it originated too deep beneath the sea.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake struck at 8.23 p.m. on Thursday, 244 kilometers off the coastal town of Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental.
